Oculus (2013)
oculus-2013 blog
Horror film that is truly a horror film. The slow build of mood and atmosphere are tangible in this eerie supernatural psychological thriller. Top notch acting and production make this a must-see.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
tmnt 2014

The Turtles are a childhood favorite of mine. That being said, I was giving this a chance and hoped for the best even though I had serious reservations concerning the production team behind it.

I basically got what I figured which was the basic Turtles history retold and some cool special effects.
That’s what you get and that’s pretty much it. It wasn’t a bad film but nothing very special either.
It was a nice introduction to a new audience which took a lot more serious tone than all the previous films before it.

Hopefully this will be a window for new fans to discover the wonderful history of the TMNT and the excellent comics that inspired the whole phenomena in the first place.

Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)

Aug 4th, 2014

Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)
(I usually don’t review a film from just the first viewing but I was tricked into this one… (Thanx Paul HEHE)… but I feel fine about doing this “Horror Bite” review now as this thing was pretty darn good.)

As a film unto itself  “Guardians Of The Galaxy” is a great adventure story with likeable characters and a nice basic (somewhat loose) plot to keep things moving.  You know where things are heading but there are nice little surprises along the way to keep things interesting. The bad guys are pretty short changed in this one but the ‘heroes’ are the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” and are the ones that keep things interesting.

As part of the bigger Marvel franchise of films this reveals a whole new level of the Marvel Universe. Like the Thor movies started doing previously this one really opens up the cosmic side of things for the rest of the heroes.

“Guardians” really appealed to my love for sci-fi/fantasy more than most of the other Marvel movies and I feel is one of the better films to come out of Marvel’s cinematic universe.

Rating: ★★★★☆
